Suspension Return Pipe

Post by cox377 »

Hello all,

Those famous warning lights came home on the way home tonight saying low fluid, got home and found that the return fluid line from the near side front strut had perrished. Is it possible to get a replacement? It looks like it's moulded into the arm?

Much appreciated as always guys

Very common problem, you can get replacements from GSF but you can usually repair them by cutting the perished end off and refitting the slightly shorter pipe, its just a push fit, I have even done one on an XM without taking the wheel off, just putting the suspension on full height.

James
as Peter says GSF or ECP sell them but mind you get a new clip/strap as when removeing them they can end up not reusable,

i usualy use a pair of carpenters pinchers to re/fit the clip

The return pipe is listed on GSF's website as:

453PC0590...RETURN PIPE...XANTIA FRT STRUT RETURN PIPE...9.80

that's without the dreaded added!!

The clamp bracket jobby can be a right git to fit back on and likely cable
ties will start looking very appealing!

Otherwise to remove and fit the rubber return will take 5 minutes and
the clamp about 5 hours...  :x

Actually, I just assumed you need a new return for a Xantia as this seems
to cover about 60-70% of cars discussed here!

But if it's for a BX:
453PC0571...RETURN PIPE...BX FRONT STRUT RETURN PIPE-COPY...6.30
453PC0580...RETURN PIPE CLIP...BX FRT STRUT RETURN PIPE CLIP...3.95

and Xm:
453PC0590...RETURN PIPE...XM FRONT STRUT RETURN PIPE...9.80

:D

No I don't work for GSF but Eurocarparts site is a right PITA to access quickly!

I'm guessing that'd be a BX one on your 250k+ mile Xantia then?

The return bend looks like there are cracks on the pipe mind
unless it's just a trick of the camera. I'd be surprised a jubilee
is required as it's not under pressure and always a push fit
from new.

I put a juberlee on there for good measure, now I've taken some of the pipe away I wanted to make sure it didn't come off.

As for the pipe, I'm assuming it's 100% standard, just didnt know if I could make a Xantia one fix due to price : )
