aircon regassing port

Unread post by c.morewood »

I'm considering doing a regas of my Xanta's aircon with a leak sealer. It hasn't worked for about 9 months. So I've got a couple of questions.
Where is the regas port?
Are there any checks I should do beore the regas?
Thanks in advance.

I think on the HDI's as with others the AC compressor and regass ports are only getable from under the car so if you have an undertray you need to take that off first and then hook up your regasing unit.

Yes, the regas ports are on the in and outlet pipes under the front...

Put the car on high, then for safty support the car with axle stands then - if fitted remove the under tray, then you will see the compressor at the bottom with two large pipes comming from it and TWO ports!

If you have a quick release adapter it should ONLY fit the Low side re charge port.. as the high pressure port is a different size..

Thanks Guys.. I'm heading down South this summer and it looks as though I'll need the aircon.
Is there ayway I can check for leaks before using the regas?

Only if you have the gauges or go to halfrauds and buy a regas kit with a gauge on it, give "some" indication of how much is in there but not really accurate.

You can't tell how much is in there unless you recover the refrigerant and weigh it. Most likely it's "close enough" if the low side is around 35psi with the system fully loaded .. ie: interior fans running full bore with the air-con on (depending on the refrigerant used) the high side will depend on the anbient temperature and condensing capacity. I can get the high side way over 200psi on 40degree days in my CX for example (that I've put the hugest most efficient condenser I can find in).

If you can't find the service ports, you can use the shraeder valve under the pressure sensor. You should be able to unscrew you quick release R134a fittings to expose the standard shraeder valve R12 fitting on your gauge/manifold set.
