New berlingo 1.6 hdi and dispatch 2.0 hdi question

Unread post by Ray »

How reliable are they? I'me buying one next week. A mate works in a Citroen main dealer and reckons they're very reliable. Anything i should look out for?

Regards

The 1.6HDI requires a 'proper' oil change, none of this suck it out the top short cut stuff, otherwise the turbo suffers, so check it's been dealer serviced, or by someone who know what they're doing. It also has a DMF so check fo untoward squeaks and rattles at start up / shut down / taking up the drive which might point to imminent failure and ££££ expense. The 2.0 HDi is pretty bomb proof as along as it is run on proper diesel. They were designed by the French and seem to like being driven hard - none of this pootling around stuff - a white van should be OK then! Rattles at cold start can indicate failed crank pulley - only a ton fitted so not the end of the world, but it can throw the cambelt off, however, even this is not a total disaster, as this only requires replacement of broken rockers, not a head off job.

Richard, i asume by 2.0HDi your meaning the 8v 90s and 110s and not the 16v 138?

The 1.6 and later 2.0 16v HDis needs the corrct oil too, or this car cause problems too. I wouldnt stick to the long service intervals either, the 1.6 should have frequent oil changes to avoid oil starvation to the turbo.
