If its the same injection system & the plug is the same it will fit no problem. The code is stored in the ECU not the keypad so your original code will be transfered to the 406, it can then be changed if need be.

An S reg may have a transponder, in which case probably not compatable.
Thought you meant you knew it had a keypad.

Just to clarify this, they changed at late P / early R to transponder.

Its possible to find a P with a transponder although most are keypad, and its also possible to find an R reg with a keypad, but 99% will be transponder.

Reasons being stock unregistered for a while I guess...

Best option: if possible examine donor 406. Keypad on RHD models is hidden on the right hand side of the dash under a pull out flap, just above the fusebox. Transponder models still have this flap but its a mini coin tray thing on those.

If they changed Late P early R, then Citroen waited longer.. Which I doubt..

They changed to Transponder in 1998, R reg..

So P reg 1997 cars Will have Keypads, Isn't the keypad in a drop down cubby to the right of the steering colum on 406's??

The other clue to Transponder is an RF key not an IR.. There will be no IR LED on the key (Not the Red operating LED)

The actual Change Month, was Jan 1998 a change to Transponder

It is. But the later models (transponder) have this as a sort of coin tray thing anyway. Just above the fusebox on the right hand side of the steering wheel on a RHD car. ( as posted above ;) )
