2006 C5 owner

After owning a GSA, Xantia and BX, I was tempted to stray away to a Volvo but I ended up buying a C5 II Exclusive estate 2.0HDi (which seems to be a pretty rare model) from auction, with 31k on the clock

It is an ex-Citroen UK contract car, which was owned by a Citroen service manager in the South East. It has most the goodies on, excluding the lane departure warning device and the sunroof.

It has had quite a lot of work done under warranty, including:

I have serviced it from home (the air and fuel filters were black) and had the air conditioning repaired, due to a split flexible pipe (a cost of £250)

Thanks to eBay, the car sports front and rear Citroen mudflaps. Fortunately, my mileage is not crazy (about 10-15,000 miles per year) and so I hope that all the niggles have been sorted out, although this forum has been a great help so far and, given this car's past record, I hope that it will continue to be so...

Very nice looking C5 you have there. Has optional leather and TVs too!

The 2.0HDi 16v is a great engine, and the S2 C5 is a nicer car to drive than the S1 also.

Extremely low mileage to have needed a DMF and clutch, thats a bit odd.

I hope it proves reliable for you. Our 2.0HDi 16v has been great so far.

I also got some mudflaps for ours, front and back, from ebay. Took me a while to find them but its now got a set. Looks so much better with them too.

Thanks gents. It did spend some time in London's fun fun fun traffic, which may explain the demise of the clutch.

The car also has Navidrive, which seems to be a pretty low-rent system really...

It looks very good to me as well but i am worried about that milage as the drivers seat seems to have wear that is consistant with a car with more than circa 100k on it... dont mean to worry you but it fits in with the DMF and clutch being done...

nice to have the TV and leather though, never seen it before on a C5!

Clutch pedal rubber would suggest that too, looks a little worn. Its probably just had a lot of driving in londons traffic, lots of time with bums on seats but not getting anywhere!

Some leather feed will bring up the leather nicely.

I know what you mean about the seats. They look especially horrible in the pics, as I used a leather cleaning product that left a chalky residue. They have now been fed and are much nicer. From looking at other high-mileage C5s, the leather seats seem to last quite well.

The clutch pedal rubber is worn on its edge but I know that the mileage is genuine, as it is backed up with full main dealer Citroen service history, plus the warranty dates and miles are provided. I spoke to the last owner yesterday, who confirmed that the DMF started clanking (I assume due to a faulty part/design/maltreatment) so this and the clutch was replaced.

What a load of work required for such low mileage. Mine is a year older and now with 65000 on the clock, has only been back to the dealers once, and that was for a new starter motor.

If it was living in london for a while then that would explain the clutch replacment and pedal rubber wear, especially if the owner had chunky shoes. By the way the pedal rubber is about £5 from the dealer and well worth replacing.

C5s steering wheels show the wear most, yours looks fine, with the awful leather looking stuff which seems to go like putty with time, wearing thin but going thicker in other place. Would it really have been much more trouble or more expensive to use actual leather, very cheap and nasty in my opinion, worst thing about the C5s interior. I much prefer our SX which just has a steering wheel and no fake leather wrap, horrid idea.

It doesnt look like the stitching could be unpicked, as the wheel looks different, thinner, under the wrap than the normal wheels do.

Mine isnt too bad but on the right where your hand is most it is getting a bit untidy. Wouldnt mind getting a good one from a basic C5 to replace it.

I know what you mean about the steering wheel. I reminds me of the fragile item from my old GSA, which almost melted!

Mine is OK for now but I do not think it will be long before it starts to go manky. The material is so soft, one can dig a fingernail into it. I was thinking about investing in this:

What, take of the nasty C5 stuff and restitch with that? Might work, though not sure how good a aftermarket stitched wheel cover would be.

Id rather try and find a good wheel from a basic model, none leather effect. No doubt it would be an expensive item to buy from the dealers

I think these covers are meant to go over the wheel as it is. The leather looks to be fairly thin. However, I think the C5 wheel has too many broad spokes to be covered nicely. Also the colour wouldn't be coordinated with the rest of the cockpit. It would end up looking naff and tatty. !IMHO!
