Xantia Oil Level Sensor / Switch

Xantia Oil Level Sensor / Switch
1996 Citroen Xantia 1.9 Diesel.
Oil level warning light flashes for around 30 seconds after starting engine.
Changed changed oil filter and replaced oil to correct level.
I can't easily see the oil level sensor.
In the Haynes manual is says:
"Oil level sensor - The sensor is on the front side of the cylinder block, just to the right of the oil filter."
Anyone know how to locate the oil level sensor easily?
Many thanks

If you're using semi/synthetic oil, it confuses the sensor.

I am not sure how this is working, on the face of it it is something to do with John's blog but I used the left click to bring up the image (which opened in another browser on a different desktop then copied the address (left click on the image) and pasted that.
No science involved in that, just low-level bodging.

The sensor is on the back of the engine, bang opposite the starter motor... I fancy the wiring comes out on a yellow plug...
The sensor(s) on the front or the engine are for pressure and temperature.
It's rare for them to act up unless as Xac says, you're running synthetic. I sometimes see mine on if the car is hot and/or has been parked on an incline...

I was getting excited there for a mo !! My understanding was the sensor is located on the back of the block then this thread said the front !!
But as CJ sez , it's at the back and the manifold needs to come off to replace it Mines failed and I can't find the motivation to spend all day replacing it !!

This was a cut and past from a pdf. It shows a little picture but it's too close up to make out any distinguishing marks. ( I'll try putting it in this post).
jgra1 - I'll be sure to check out that area..
CitroJim - .. and behind the engine, ( if viewable from underneath without having to remove the whole lump :s )
Haynes definitely says:
"Oil level sensor - The sensor is on the front side of the cylinder block, just to the right of the oil filter."
OK, more investigation is needed.
If anyone else has specifically changed theres then let me know otherwise if it's not behind the starter motor or if it DOES require the manifold to be removed then I'll be adopting the Homer solution and either taking out the bulb or putting sticky tape over it >:)
cheers - romie

Hi Romie,
The picture in the PDF is correct and this is looking at the back of the block. It's just to the right of the flywheel as you look at it and in the picture you can just see the exhaust manifold to turbo flange.
Never believe as gospel all you read in the Haynes manual. We on here don't call it the BoL (Book of Lies) for nothing you know
Lie on your back under the car and you should spot it quite clearly but as HDI says, getting it out may be another matter entirely!!!
I'd just disconnect it....
