Hiya.
The suspension on my Xantia has never really been 'Magic Carpet' like. Whilst its tolerable, it is rather rough riding and I'm starting to wonder why. I've asked this question in the past, and replaced suggested parts, so far to no avail.
Since September the car has had, in order:
a) Rear spheres replaced
b) Rear height corrector replaced
c) Accumulator Sphere replaced
d) Rear Anti-sink sphere replaced.
The hardness appears to be at the back, although I can't really tell. If I raise the car up and then lower it again, I get the 'magic carpet' feeling for a mile or so..
The car raises and lowers fine and evenly, although when raising it from the lowest position it can take upwards of a minuite to begin to rise. Rising from all other settings, and lowering, are fine. LHM level is correct.
It's always been like it and I've had the car a year now.
Any ideas? Ta [:)]

It sounds to me as though the car is riding low. I see what you are saying about the hydraulic pressure - they always seem a little slow to rise from the lowest setting but a miniute is a little on the slow side. I suffered from this for a long time on my TD BX and the primary cause was low hydraulic pressure due to a wrongly assembled pressure relief valve in the power steering splitter. My warning light would come on at times when the car was cold and the only way I could pump it up from cold was to put some tension on the steering wheel.
I also found that greasing the front struts helped things considerably after I had cured the hydraulic problems and the front of the car is still reluctant to rise due I believe to a minor fault in the height corrector or its linkage. It does however correct itself when it gets shaken up by the car moving.
So if your hydraulic pressure is ok I would suggest you listen for creaky and jerky struts and / or stiff height corrector linkages.
