C5 Exclusive SE 2.2 HDI estate 2002

I have a ticking / tapping noise from the engine when idling, it seems to go
away when revs are raised. It seems louder in the car than outside. when wheel
and wheel well cover was removed to change auxillary belt, it seemed louder
then.
I feel it is something attached to the engine, and not internal, it has that
sort of sound.
I was told it may be the crankshaft pulley, as the are a composite of rubber and
steel, and it wears a little.
Has anyone else had this tapping / ticking and found the cure?
If it is the pulley, how easy to change as no Haynes for the 2.2hdi.
Thanks for your time.

Draw a radial line - chalk/tippex or whatever, on your pulley and watch over a few days to see if the various parts shift in relation to one another to determine whether the rubber part has loosened from the steel parts.

Somewhere on the forum is a thread dealing with replacement but not 2.2-specific IIRC.

Hi

Sounds like the crank pulley.

Changed the one on my 01 2.2, very straight forward.

GSF do one for about £50 -60.
