Steering wheel radio controls

Unread post by algieuk »

Could someone tell me what functions are available from the steering wheel radio controls. The volume +- is obvious as is mute and search. Memo is a little more confusing. I have already discovered that by holding down the mute button it will swithc between radio and auxilliary. Do any of the other buttons have extended functions?

well on my xantia mk1, the vol is up-down, mute is mute, holding down mute does what you say, press & hold memo = turn off stereo, pressing memo changers function/radio band eg, fm, am, lw, cd, tape (depending on stereo fitted)

With the standard radio:
Volume: What it says on the tin.
Memo: Switches between preset Radio stations, ie if you've got R1, R2 and R3 stored it'll swap between them
Mute: What it says on the tin
<< >>: Search frequency
With my Sony CDX-M670:
Mute: Mute, or bass/treble control depending on how it feels (Random)
Volume: What it says on the tin
Memo: Hold down for off, press once to change from Radio to CD and back again.
<< >>: Next track/previous track/search radio band

Latest Xsaras, C3, C5, C8
-volume up and down, press up+down together = mute
-little wheel to browse through your presets or multiple CD's if you have a changer attached
-next/previous : CD : next song, previous song. Radio : tune up and down.
-source button : change source : radio/cd/cd-changer

Branching off on a slightly different thread...
Xantia '93 1.6v , car originally possessed the basic radio with steering wheel controls, but no CD changer.
The wiring and connectors to the radio have been cut by the previous owner.
I've successfully done the power and speaker wiring to new blocks for a new radio.
I'm left with 3 screened cables - two single-core, one double-core (there are others, non-screened, but I guess these are for CD-changer etc which I don't have).
I assume these are the steering wheel control wires .
Can anyone tell me which wire goes to which pin on the 3rd connector block which is for the steering wheel controls? There is no simple continuity test for these wires, as far as I know - I've tried!
Can anyone shed any light on this ?
TIA,
S.
