Tyre size for xantia estate

Post by Crinkle Cut Jasper »

Hi all,

have recently bought a 96 plate 1.9td Xantia estate. Very pleased :D - my 4th xantia but my first estate!

I guess I should have noticed when i bought it but the tyre sizes on the front are 195/65x15 whereas the rear tyre sizes are 185/65x15!

Is this dangerous and should I get them changed asap? if so, which is the better size?

Thanks in advance :)

No it's fine, if they were different on the same axle you would have an issue but as they are they will cause you no problem.
If ou get them changed i think the rears are the correct size tyres, 185's sound a bit skinny for a Xantia

To my knowledge, all steel wheels are 185/65R15 and alloys are 205/60/R15 (early Xantias did have 14" wheels)

Your front ones are 1cm wider than they should be, and so are of a larger diameter too.
I'd get them changed ASAP, last thing you want is to be involved in an accident and someone to notice your front tyres are wrong.

The 1.9TD Estate should have H rated tyres too.

My previous 1.9TD VSX had 185/65R15 on alloys, and my current HDi 110 has got 205/60R15 on Steels....

However, the OP's car should have 185/65/15.

Definitely 185/65/15 or 205/60/15 (dependant on wheel width). Ours are 185's but had 205's put on by accident and they look like balloons. They also make the ride harsher oddly. Seen saloons and estates with both sizes on steels but all alloys so far on 185's. Our car has always stuck to the road like s**t to a blanket on 185's. No worries about sizes along as they match across the axle but would deffo get the 185's on the next change as these will be the correct ones. Hope this helps Al. Just for the record the pug 406 had 195's so check the steels all look the same as someone may have took some wheels of a 406 (the vent holes are round on the xantia). Ours is a 2000 90 bhp HDi estate.
