How to pull out LHM filter @ Xantia 2

Unread post by marsalek »

Hello everybody,
I am preparing myself for my 1st LHM change in my life and have a couple of questions.
1. How to pull out the cap of the LHM tank with the rubber hoses and filter below from the LHM tank. Has anyone tried that?
2. Do I have to disconnect the hoses from the cap, or can I leave them connected?
3. How to take out the LHM tank from the car?
Thanks for your answers!

Its not a difficult job, all you have to do is pull the retaining bar out of the way, and with a little bit of very gentle twisting the centre just lifts out - hoses, filters and all. You dont need to remove the hoses, just lift the centre out and have a small clean bucket to hand to place the assembly in out of the way.
To remove the tank, undo the 2 retaining nuts on the bulkhead and lift it out. Empty it and give it a rinse out with Petrol to clean it up, likewise with the filters on the bottom of the assembly removed previously - they just clip into place. If they are in any way damaged replace them as dirt in hydraulic systems is a bad idea.

Karel,
Generally Haynes manual 3082 was a good guide for me.
Don't forget to depress the system and disconnect the wiring plug of level indicator.
Top cutted Cola bottle is good cotainer for central section.
Afraiding to break hoses holder I disconnected some of them after marking with tip-ex.

My Xantia is a facelift model with 2.1TD engine and IF yours is the same as mine, there is no way that you can remove the LHM reservoir without disconnecting the pipework from the central cover. There just isn't enough spare movement in the pipework to raise the lid. I had no alternative but to hacksaw off the pipe clips and replace them with jubilee clips. I've just finished the job for the second time. It's essential to mark the pipes to ensure that they go back to the same position. To mark mine, I got a packet of small zip cable ties in various colours. Each tube has a tie in its own colour with a tie in the same colour attached to the pipe stub. I leave them permanently fixed.

Did this just the other day. Undo the bolts fastening the reservoir down and unclip the big clip that holds the pipes to the side of the reservoir. Then you get enough movement so that with a bit of gentle twisting it will all come out without disconnecting any pipes.
Have fun.

Hello Jamie,
your answer sounds encouraging. How do you unclip the plastic pipe-holder at the side of the reservoir?
Thanks,

Hi Karel
Just popped outside to have a look to remind myself. Its just gentle persuasion really. If you slide the whole clip towards the back of the car after undoing the nuts holding the reservoir it will come off its tracks, but really its just lifting the clip up as high as you can and gently pulling towards the centre of the car. I don't remember any drama when I did it, and I did it twice, once to put Hydraflush in, and then again to put LHM back in.
Just have a gentle pull and twist.
Enjoy!
Jamie
