Rhodia is the chemical company that makes it. I don't know if the chemical industry works in the same way as the pharmaceutical industry. When a pharma company discovers a new drug, they have sole rights to manufacture and sell for ten years. They can charge what ever they like. In the '60s Boots the chemists discovered and marketed a new drug called Brufen. It was very expensive. It was later called ibuprofen and became cheap as chips.
Maybe the chemical industry works the same. Maybe in a couple of years or so, other firms will be allowed to produce it, and the price will fall.
