v6 big oil filter

Post by citrov6 »

A couple years ago citroen started giving me onesthat were half the size. Which at first i just used to accept, but oil changes are more frequent than I would like with it. I wonder if the big old one is still available from some place?

Try for a Purflux LS520C as these are the original V6 filter and were intended to last through 2 oil changes (12000 miles).
The more recent replacement is the Purflux LS880A (Citroen 1109.S9) and these smaller ones are rated for a single oil change of 11000 miles.
I know that the LS880A is current production but not sure about the LS520C. My last mixed batch of a dozen of each about 3 months ago came from a Citroen dealer instructed to clear them as surplus items and not to restock.

I have a LS520C and a LS880A filter in stock for my V6, the 520 is about twice the size of the 880.

FWIW, the Purflux catalogue shows the LS520C as having been replaced by the LS880A on 10/6/02.

Iam using the small one ATM . They are the same as diesel estate ones and I have a few left. You can get the big one in a Mahle filter. You are always better of with the extra filter media and capacity I think.

My old Patrol had two really big oil filters and 11 litres of oil in the sump..............600 thousand miles were common on those vehicles.

GSF do (or did) the whopping great big filter last time I got one from them. Part number 120PC0070.

I'm currently running a factor pattern which is halfway between the whoppper and a normal XU(D) filter. I can't identify it at present as my V6 is resting at my daughters house. I currently have her 206 here at mine for driving lessons this evening...

One thing to watch is that some factors will fob you off with an XU(D) filter and these are far too tiny. Sounmds like you're running one of those Lexi..

Get it swapped ASAP.

Interesting that the whopper is supposed to last over two changes. Not likely!

When I bought a filter for my Kangoo I thought they'd given me one from a 125cc motorbike it's so small., and they're supposed to 20k between changes
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

The tiny XUD ones are Purflux 867B's.
All three types have the same thread and diameter sealing ring so will physically fit most Citroens.
There is a vast difference in the internal components used in oil filters.
Quality, design (pore size) and volume of filter material varies with the various manufacturers. This can make the physical size of the filter a poor guide to its service capability. The LS520C original design dates from the 1970's. It was specified for the CX 2.5 diesel amongst others. There is a real risk that despite the large size of these filters they will clean the oil less well than the modern LS880A. I have collected a good supply of both types but only used the big old ones on the near life expired (200k +) engines.
