110 HDI Exhaust

Post by Xantic »

I noticed a few threads on the 110 HDI exhaust.

On the way to work this morning mine broke, Not a nice simple back end of the exhaust but just in front of the cat on the bend.

Is there a down pipe that can be fitted and do away with the cat.
The rest of the exhaust is salvagable i hope.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Failing that i'm booking myself in for a nervous breakdown.

The cat on my HDi was replaced by a straight through pipe by the previous owner, I don't think you can buy one off the shelf though.

Someone who makes custom stainless exhaust in your area would bend a pipe and flange to fit...mild or stainless.

A straight through pipe would be the ideal thing but i cant find one either. Looks like i will have to buy a cat. I was hoping there was a down pipe that would fit, I do not have time to get one made as i need the car for back and fore work.

I assume it's the same as on my Xsara 110 HDi. About a year ago mine went in the same place (just before the cat). I priced up a new one and it was silly money. According to the local garage the high price is not just because of the cat itself but also because the part of the pipe from the turbo to the cat is a type of flexible pipe which drives the price up.

I decided to try and repair it myself and once removed I found it all in pretty good condition apart from the break. I sleeved the join internally with a 2 inch offcut of pipe and welded it all round and was very impressed with the result. My welding skills are amateur at best but I honestly think it will last for years.

So if you can find someone with a welder they are repairable.

They all seem to go there I did the on on my 2.1TD a while ago and have had to do both the Xsara HDI and Xantia HDI in the last couple of months. In all cases I've not had to sleeve either internally or externally, just cleaner up the break and welded the 2 halves together. The one on the 2.1 lasted 3 or more years up until I scrapped the car and I've just fitted it onto the Xantia HDI, as it was begining to blow just before the back box, so hopefully it will last a few years yet.

My plan, when the time comes  , and if the pipe is not re-weldable, is to buy 2 of the 'repair' pipes which cost <£20, and butcher one to replace the CAT with. I reckon a couple of hours with the MIG and angle grinder will sort it

Well due to being away with work etc since the exhaust has gone i went into KwikFit for a price today.
Complete system £424... I want a car for that so if i cant get it done a lot cheaper she will be scrapped or sold to the highest bidder..

Try some other places including any Citroen specialists and the dealers. KwickFit can be unbelievably expensive.

They quoted me £96 for a back box on an Accord. I bought one for £24 and it took less than 15 minutes to fit it myself.

You'd get a custom made stainless exhaust including fitting for around that price :?

I probably wont scrap it although i hate being ripped off from these garages..I just need the job done quick and a reasonable cost.

I do not have the time myself to do this but i am willing to pay but not extorninate prices..

As long as the pipe is basically sound that should be a welding job and take about 1 hour. Try an find a local indy garage to do it.

The problem is time, I am off to Brussels on Tuesday, wont be home until thursday and as for finding a garage around here they do not want to know.. I used to be able to get around things and get anything done but ive lost my touch and contacts. It's about time i won the lottery and retired i think. More chance of climbing Everest on a pogo stick.

That shows my age (pogo stick ) lol..
