Is it a BX or Xantia or what?
The BX ones are coded to the car and the site linked above has instructions on reprogramming them.
The Xantia infra-red ones can be reprogrammed easily. I know this because I bought a new one and the dealer did the job in about 2 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't watch.[:I]
He did say it was just a matetr of turning the ignition on and firing the remote at the reciever. I don't know if you have to do anything else like stand on one leg and sing the French national anthem backwards at the same time though.
The later Xantia have a different system and I don't know how those work.
If anyone is interested, I have a Xantia IR plip which I am willing to part with at a huge saving on the dealer price.

I bought a new plip for my 1993 Xantia a few weeks ago and had to reprogram it myself.Turn the ignition on and hold the new plip close to the reciever top of the windscreen and press the top button and hold for a few seconds.Job done. The only thing to remember is the new plip reprograms the main reciver so any old plips won't work.Hope this helps.

Homer - I may be interested in the plip if the price is right and it'll work on my '93 SX TD. Is it the single or two button version for vehicles with an alarm?

Dave - I got a strange email of yourself last night - did you want to ask me something? I'll have a plip off you if you've got a spare one - only need the circuit board as my local dealer sells empty housings.

Does anyone elses Plip have a rubbish range? It works fine, but I've got to be practically stood next to the car to open it. Our Mondeo LX would open from inside the house :) It's got new batteries etc.
Does anyone know if the 98-00 Xantia's used the same system, or if they had a C5-style key with the window-windup button etc?

radio frequency (as fitted to a xantia 2 & C5) plips will work quite some distance away, the infra red plips (xantia 1) have to be in line of sight with the recever & quite close.the xantia plips dont have the window feature.
