Clio MOT failure...

Unread post by Kris80 »

Hi everyone,

I've had my car tested today. They said it failed on emissions and the problem was surely the engine that needed cleaning. So I came back to collect my Clio but they said I couldn't drive it back home!

The guy explained that when they put some chemicals through the engine the oil filter exploded. More than that, they found some water at the bottom of the engine.

I'm wondering now how much they are going to charge for the repairs... :? Should I pay for all of the repairs? I mean the car was no problem before they tried to flush the engine. I'm a bit confused as the total cost may be too high and the whole thing may not be worth it.

Looking forward to your advice

I think that if this was me, I'd be asking the garage what they put in the engine, and looking at speaking to Trading Standards or maybe even VOSA

Absolutely - they took it upon themselves to tinker with your car without your authorisation, the responsibility lies with them entirely.

Thanks for your replies,

Actually when I came to collect my car for the first time the guy said that the problem might be the engine - the oil was too old and needed changing. So I say 'OK do it' but I didn't expect them to blow the oil filter or anything else.

I'm happy to pay for cleaning the engine, and the oil but I refuse to pay for new oil filter.

It doesn't matter right now. I decided to pay for the filter and the whole MOT check + oil filter + labour costed me £80.

But guess what... when I collected my car today it suddenly started to 'cough' (misfire?) so it looks like they damaged it even more. I've decided not to take it any further. It's not worth it and I need a car - I'm buying new Fiesta in 2 hours. I can still claim £2000 off for scrappage.
I will never go back there again. And if you are near Horsham, West Sussex avoid National Tyres And Autocare.

Thanks
