2001 C5 – Warning alarm sounds but no message displayed

Post by slimboyfatt »

I have a 2001 Citroen C5 that has a persistent warning alarm sound but no message is displayed or warning lights illuminated on the dash. Its driving us nuts. I checked all the fluid levels – LDS appears to be on the low side hence the previous post. If anyone has any ideas of what I should check I'd be greatful.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your replies chaps. Its the "bong" sound that you would get if you popped the car into reverse, not the "bleep" that sounds if you have low fuel. I've WD40'd all the locks, handbrake levers and door hinges, anything I could think of really and it seemed ok on a short drive this evening :-.

Is the button on the end of the right stalk sticking in / working?
The bong sound is also used when making a change to some of the settings.

The button works ok, I went through a few settings last night and switched the Overspeed on and off a few times. What is Check Control? – I didn't have the manual with me at the time. Hopefully good old Water Displacement XL has done the trick. I'll know soon enough.

Check control shows any error messages you have had since engine start.
That's real errors rather than empty screen wash.

Is your car fitted with parking sensors? If so, I had a similar issue that turned out to be a sensor picking up the proximity of the car, it could just need to be moved slightly.

No parking sensors fitted. Could have done with them a couple of times though ;-)

Okay well rules that out, I'm wondering now if it could be a faulty reversing switch. Is it sounding all the time?

Maybe a broken/loose wire on the switch?

Perhaps one of our technical experts could help you with the location of it?

It seems to be intermittent. What things make the "bong sound"? I know for sure that the reverse gear selection does.

Nothing else than reverse in the time that I’ve had mine.

It seems that when something happens that shouldn't you get the bong sound, as opposed to beeps which are information sounds.

I get it on my C5 when the battery is too low in voltage and can't turn the engine over. I've also had it when I've disconnected the MAF and got an emission warning. I think it a;so sounds if you get the STOP warning coming on.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

I have the problem too. But the battery indicator isnt that low. It only "bongs" sometimes and I can't figure it out :( No message in the info display.
