Xantia - Front Passenger Side light not working

Post by gadgetgricey »

After the issues I had today with draining the tank via the priming bulb, I thought I'd spend 5 mins and change the passenger side light bulb.

All done, turned the lights on and nothing. (exactly the same as before)
Dipped and Main, both work, just the side lights for the passenger side.

Checked the fuses and the rear tail lights both work fine, so dont think its that.

The bulb is fine, so wondered if there were any "known" faults before I get the multimeter out. (Done a search and cant find anything)

Sorry for all the questions over the past few days, but thanks for everyone's responses.

First thought: Earth wire has broken off inside the sidelight bulb holder (or its horribly corroded internally and green)

Time to grab a multimeter and check there is a good 12v feed to one pin and a good earth to the other really.

Should only take you a minute. If the bulb holder itself unplugs, its worth checking it at that joint too, as well as inside the actual holder if possible.

I'm not familiar with the Xantia though, sorry. I'd guess its 406 style (hopefully the sidelight bulbs are a bit less fiddly) :)

The Main plug to the headlamp on the rear is noutorious for dodgy connections!!

Ive had a few before now.. remove the plug, check the plug connections, get some contact cleaner in them and try again..

Ive had to change a whole headlamp to get a side light to work before now!

I've had the same problem on my Xantia Hdi, and agree with Paul (Citroenxm). Like that I cleaned the contacts on the rear lamps, and all front lights worked perfectly.
