Oil leak - new head gasket.

Post by AndersDK »

'89 BX19RD (N/A) 175Kmiles.
Leaking badly - 1L/600miles topping up necessary.
No oil in coolant (yet - [B)])
Using the search on forum oil leaks subject, it seems evident the head gasket must be replaced.
Any hints/tips on head removal [?]
Necessary milling the head [?]
Tx guys [^]

Is that really....Anders asking for advice[?][?]
I am disappointed, Anders, to find you do not know EVERYTHING about BX's (althought maybe after this you will!)[8)]
For a man of your considerable experience and skill a head job on a N/A XUD should not tax you beyond a day's easy work. Lots of oil leaking down the back of the engine is a good sign the head gasket needs doing. Yours may be early enough to be fitted with non-stretch bolts. It shouldn't be necessary to skim the head if it has not overheated at all, but let your straight edge and feeler gauge guide you. At the mileage probably worth checking the valve seats and clearances. Don't worry about small cracks around the inlets from the swirl chambers - they all do that!
You'll enjoy it - it's one of those really 'fun' Citroen jobs!!!

Three weeks into the job, I consider the same job on my Xantia TD 'Fun'.
Getting the turbo off ( access to the bolts ) is a nightmare, especially in the rain, with said rain ( mixed with god knows what ) trying to make it's way to the back of your throat !
