mini meet at IWM Duxford - Postponed Again

Post by xantia_v6 »

Due to people being busy on Mothering Sunday, this has been postponed until later in the year.

few months ago, while juggling with a V6 engine, Jim let slip that he has never been to the Duxford Imperial War Museum. So if he is off Citroens for a few weeks, it seems like a good opportunity to rectify the situation.

I am free next weekend (13/14), and then any weekend in March. So are there any takers for a group visit? I don't expect to get the 10 required for a group discount, but it seems to be a good excuse for a small gathering.

Any takers? and preferred dates?

Mike, that sounds like a great idea!

I'm pleased you did not say this weekend as I'm busy relaxing with family for most of it :D

One place I've been meaning to visit for ages!

I'm in. 13/14 sounds good, any weekend for that matter. This weekend I'll be tinkering. I'll set some cash aside for it.

Great!!

No-one has picked a day yet, so I choose Sunday.

It is open 10am till 6pm, so we need to decide to go early or late.
I suppose we could do a pub lunch and then Duxford?

I believe I am working Saturday (have one off soon though not sure which) so Sunday is better.

Pub lunch sounds good, gives me a bit of time to get up there

I was all up for this, until I was reminded what else 14th February is... :bouncy:

Need to get to Duxford though. As a plane nerd, I want to see the TSR2. One of the best looking planes ever built, and a sad testament to the decline of our aviation industry.

I get married at the end of March, so I'm unlikely to make it this side of May unfortunately... Got to 'endure' two weeks in Sri Lanka! :D

James

PS Is that the first time that one has been used on here? :)

I live quite close (5 miles away but under the flight path on air-show days).

The Chequers at Fowlmere is does decent pub food. The King William IV at Heydon is nicer, but the food is really a bit expensive these days.

The Royal Oak at Barrington is somewhere between those in quality and value.

A bit further afield, (about 12 miles from Duxford) the Red House at Longstowe is good.

I belatedly realised that the date has significance for some people. I negotiated around that problem, but OTOH, "significant others" are welcome :D

It might make it harder to find a place for lunch (I will phone a couple of the pubs to see how their bookings are).
