I am trying to get my auxiliary heater going again.
Like most of the "toys" it didn't work when I purchased the car and I have considered installing my webasto instead.
However.... I'd like to see if I could get the build in heater to work before It goes in the bin.
I have tried to bypass the relay and supply the heater with 12v, but this has had no effect what so ever.
Are there any faults that would prevent the heater from at least trying to start up like this?
Can anybody think of further testing? or any "common faults" for this heater?
I am planning to remove the front bumper this weekend, to access the heater, and would like advice as to what spare parts would be nice to have at hand while I have the whole think taken apart?
(fuel pump looks quite dated, and I will replace the pre- heater plug for sure... but anything else? )

Which heater do you mean?
The glow plug heaters for starting the engine from cold
The cabin heater/ air conditioning
or the electric heater matrix heater (theres a glow plug assembly on the 306 hdi, i assume the xantia is the same, where it basically uses glow plugs to warm up the coolant entering the heater matrix, so you get warm cabin air within about 20 seconds.

I know that once Eberspachers go that is usually it.......very expensive to fix. Some of the guys on Landrover forums use them. We don`t see them much on Cits here.
I think there is an ECU ...could be faulty or has locked up for safety reasons like heater not igniting. Don`t know if a Lexia could unlock it. You may have air in the pipes OR blocked pipes ie coolant or fuel.

Hmmm... to answer my own question.

It seems the unit will have to be "unlocked" after it has been out of action due to a fault.. ... perhaps I should simply fit the Webasto right away.
