Xsara 1.4 timing belt interval

Post by lib319 »

Hello

Can anyone tell me the timing belt interval for a petrol 1.4 Xsara hatch, 2001 Mk2?

I've heard its 10years or 100,000 miles. Is this true?

cheers

100k seems a tad excessive.
I know I have a different car, but my haynes says that the normal interval is 72k but strongly recommends that it's changed at 48k.
It depends on the kind of use the car gets, short journeys with a lot of stop-start driving (apparently) tends to put more wear on the belt than long motorway cruising.
Personally I wouldn't leave the same belt on there fore more than about 40k, the job isn't too difficult but the damage to an engine in the event of timing belt failure can be enormous.

I'm sure someone who knows more about petrol Xsaras than I do (i.e. more than nothing at all) can come along and correct me.

Also welcome to FCF :)

Thanks mate, thinking of getting a 2001 Xsara with 61K on it with what looks like the original timing belt.

Will get it changed relatively soon but just wondering what the risk is at this age and mileage, ie must be immediate or can be left til next month.

Anyone with the exact specified interval?
