Death Of Another Xantia

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi,
My sons car was hit by a clown speeding around a roundabout. A shame, because it was in good nick for it's age, doing all my son wished----economical as hell, comfortable, and with the HDi 110 engine, a great puller with caravan on the back. Obviously a write off.
As car was;

Now;

The other driver (?) claimed he wasn't speeding, but this happened on a tight roundabout. Had it been the front door, a busted leg and hip would probably been the end result for my son. The other car was a Mondeo.

Has the shell actually twisted Gregg as the door looks like it's taken the
full brunt on the bash? The sill is clearly 'distressed' but the main concern
would be the leading edge of the rear wing/door jamb area. Does the car
drive true or is there twist in tge car unseen!? Silver door on eBay for £30..

Shame. :(

Death Of An Xantia

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi Andrew,
The top roof seam on top of door is comng away, and the bonnet is not sitting true. The assessor will see it on Tuesday. Engine only done 127000 miles--sounds sweet as a nut. My son is really hacked off about this.

Sorry to hear of your son's misfortune.

Maybe you can retain the car after the insurance and then maybe one of the good men on here can rescue it. Hope so.

I wondered if there was any creasing transmitted into the roof. Watch with the
insurance claim and liability etc as I've had a roundabout accident where the
insurer says it's not clear cut and most accidents on one are viewed as a 50/50
blame/liability.

Is the plan to keep the car for parts or let it go? If your lad get's another it
could pay to have this one handy and 110bhp engines are rarer too?

Death Of Another Xantia- AND C5 questions

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi,
My son is going after a C5---he doesn't want another Xantia. Which C5 is the best to get---diesel versions only.? He has not got the room to store the 110 engine, or the equipment and time to remove the engine from his Xant.
Have all C5 got particulate filters.? Which ones to avoid like the plague.??
Thanks,
Greg

Series 1 C5s, only the 2.2 has the particle filter/eolys AFAIK.
All the facelift ones have the filter/fluid.

The 2.0 HDi seems to be the most reliable one/least problems.

Death Of Another Xantia

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi,
My sons car was pronounced dead by insurance bloke. He was made a good offer which my son accepted. He has bought an 05 plate C5 VTR 2 litre HDI (138 bhp ), in red.
A pity about the Xantia---he would have got years more out of it. Now some breaker will make a good few quid out of it .

Shame about the Xantia :(

SOunds as though its a good C5, nice spec the VTR and the 138 engine is great, good on fuel and performs well too.
