FCF Micro-Meet
I'm hoping to catch up with John (jgra1) today, as he's only in town very briefly. Always interesting to see just how wrong you can be, in guessing what a person's like!

John's no slouch when it comes to being friendly towards good sorts. He found the natural vista in some places we visited, very appealing.
We went to the mountains. It was hot and sunny, hot and cloudy, hot and rainy, cold and rainy, cold and rainy and windy, cold and windy then windy.
John also needs to stop jumping at Australian lightning flashes (apparently much more dramatic than UK lightning).
All up, approximately 250 miles of touristing. It was a good day out!

Great stuff Adam! Sounds like you really gave John a good tour there
Good job John was not there or he'd be a nervous wreck by now.
I absolutely love a good electric storm and those we had in Darwin during the wet were the most spectacular I have ever seen. Our UK ones are pathetic by comparison but I still enjoy them.
As an ex-resident of Darwin, I know all about Aussie lightningaddo wrote:John also needs to stop jumping at Australian lightning flashes (apparently much more dramatic than UK lightning).

I too like electric storms - but we hardly ever get them up here in Scotland. However, saw some pretty impressive ones when we were in the Alps for a month in 1997 - including one we were INSIDE
- we were climbing up to the Gouter hut on Mont Blanc, which is at about 3800m, and once inside the cloud interesting things started happening. Ice axes buzzing, my mate's hair standing out horizontal from his climbing helmet, shocks off metal rope hand assits - and when we got to the hut, it was like an aluminium Nissen hut and the whole thing was buzzing. Never made it to the summit, as there was a gale blowing the next morning

a big thanks there to Addo for giving me a day out in a car i recognise
it was a nice drive up into the blue mountains, with lots of interesting facts and nuggets from addo.
yes yes lightening bolt overhead, stuck on a rocky ledge, was a bit scary
all good fun..
will dig out a pic or two, unfortuantley I didn't get many of a typical girl on the street in Bondi

Just a related follow-up... I showed John some of the rockfalls and landslides that had occurred in the last hundred years or less. I think the recentness of this history made an impression.
Yesterday, perhaps brought forward by persistent rain, there were more small landslides in areas not far from where we went - it's caused the main western rail line to be shut down. Definitely we timed the day trip well!
