Morning Malcolm,

1. Has the tyre been recently changed on the affected wheel, if so it could be the pressure sensor, they can sometimes get damaged.

2. I guessing that if the fuse isn't dead, (stating the obvious) has something else been plugged into the socket that is known to work?

1) the pressure sender unit is located as part of the inflation valve unit inside the rim.
It is powered by the external receiver unit located (emitting a weak field) somewhere in the wheel arch.
I'd suspect the external unit or its cabling

Note that aftermarket alloy wheels wont have the valve sensor unit and therefore the system will signal a low tyre pressure warning.

2) later cigar lighter (utility) outlet sockets are known to be of poor quality

The tyre pressure thing depends on whether its a mk 1 or 2 (or even mk3). The mk1 has a totaly different system to the mk2 & 3. no external emitter on the mk1.
