xsara over heating

Post by Road_Hog »

The wife's Xsara 1.4 2002 has overheated on the way to work this morning (engine warning light has come on). I know there is plenty of water in the rad/expansion bottle as I topped it up with anti-freeze earlier this week. So what are the most likely problems and watch is the check list to try to eliminate them. Is it most likely to be a faulty thermostat and if so any pointers as to where it is located?

Depending on the concentration of anti-freeze in the radiator, it could be that the water in the radiator froze, stopping circulation and allowing the engine to overheat.

Run the engine at idle for a while and see if the radiator gets hot.

Cheers for that, it appears that you were right, the radiator seems to have unfrozen now and have put some more anti-freeze in, so hopefully that will be the end of the problem.
