Check coolant flow to the Matrix, under the bonnet were the water pipes go int to the matrix there should be a bleed valve - same as a tyre valve cap.. with the engine running, take the cap off and see if theres any water flowing from it!

EVEN at idle there SHOULD be a good flow from it...

If not, then either the Matrix is blocked, or your cooling system has had a hard time with NO ANTI FREEZE, which CAN affect the head gasket..

no its not that its something to do with the blow switch on the dash. like you turn it on to 1,2,3, it blows hot air normally but its not blowing any thing

Ah right.... SORRY...

Sounds like the Resistor pack has packed up, which controls the 4 speeds, unfortunally, I DO NOT know were its located on the Van.. only in Xantias.

Its useually mounted so the resisters are IN THE Airflow, to help keep them cool.. Have a look at the blower Air Ducting under the dash, possibly hidden by some trim under the dash in the passenger footwell..

Yes loose connection, check the plug thats connected to the bottom of the blower motor, Ive known these (On Xantias) to melt the terminal boot through a loose connection and getting warm..

How far up the guage does the needle go?? If the thermostat is sticking OPEN it wouldn't even move off the guage in this cold weather....

Worth a new thermostat for a fiver, and easy to put in on the 1.9 Diesels..
