It's pathetic here. 3 inches and everyone is running around like wimps

Anyone would think three feet had fallen by the way they're carrying on

We were even offered the chance to go home from work at lunchtime when quite frankly the roads were fine. The only road gridlocked and at a standstill was the road out of our works car park as everybody scrambled to go home for an afternoon off...

They sent us lot home at 14:00.
We had nothing to do as we can't get any materials delivered, some outstanding since last year. Two of the factories have no heating and are at -1?C and have been all week.

I never went in on Monday (after a month's holiday :) ) as my daughter said it was bank holiday.Probably was somewhere, just not here :(

We have about 5" overnight on top of a lot of compressed sow & ice.

Can't make any deliveries either, all our vans and lorries were turned back today. Two blew clutches yesterday. It is supposed to be the Scotland run tomorrow, not going to happen!

Indeed... I live in Lanark, where we're 200m above sea level - this is the 9th winter we've been here, and not had anything like this!

I lived on the IOW for 15 years (been meaning to ask where you live Dean - we used to live in Chillerton, under the red TV mast lights!) - my Dad has got a picture somewhere taken on the Military Road, probably in the 86/87 winter, of his Dyane (Citroen link!) next to a snowdrift that's higher than the roof! I remember that there were some houses down there that had snowdrifts right up to eaves level. We moved there in early '78, assured it 'never snowed on the IOW' - 2 weeks later my Dad was towing the milk float out of a snow drift with his Ami (8 Estate) - and there is a picture of a very small me (I was 3...!) on a plastic tractor on the frozen swimming pool at the holiday cottage we initially lived in (isn't that child abuse????).

Not looking like we are getting any more at the moment, but not looking like it is going to melt any time soon either - wonder if we will make a month with lying snow....?

You know Steve, I've heard of it raining cats and dogs but never pigs

You're forgiven for Monday. You live so close to Scotland anyway, it seems only right for you to celebrate a Scottish bank holiday....

Richard, I know how good the Ami8 is in snow. One year ('80 I think) in heavy snow the only vehicles able to make any headway were a 2CV and my old Renault 4 :D Everything else was stuck. Thin tyres, light weight, little power and high ground clearance apparently was the secret...

Just like a little Peugeot 304 estate I had once , that thing was epic in snow ! Was living near Leeds at the time and one year the snow was really severe. On my way back from Leeds , going past a place called Garforth there is a serious bank called Garforth Cliff. Anyway snow was prolly 12" deep and still falling , it was just nose to tail at a standstill up the bank , the 304 just went past all of them up the middle like nothing was there !! Loved that little car , but my sister went and blew it up by driving it until it seized when a rad hose burst !! Silly cow !!
