Apparently "darn sarf" is getting the hammer today

Indeed... I live in Lanark, where we're 200m above sea level - this is the 9th winter we've been here, and not had anything like this!HDi wrote:Is that up in Scotland then
I lived on the IOW for 15 years (been meaning to ask where you live Dean - we used to live in Chillerton, under the red TV mast lights!) - my Dad has got a picture somewhere taken on the Military Road, probably in the 86/87 winter, of his Dyane (Citroen link!) next to a snowdrift that's higher than the roof! I remember that there were some houses down there that had snowdrifts right up to eaves level. We moved there in early '78, assured it 'never snowed on the IOW' - 2 weeks later my Dad was towing the milk float out of a snow drift with his Ami (8 Estate) - and there is a picture of a very small me (I was 3...!) on a plastic tractor on the frozen swimming pool at the holiday cottage we initially lived in (isn't that child abuse????).DeanXM wrote:We have 5" on the isle of wight
You know Steve, I've heard of it raining cats and dogs but never pigsmyglaren wrote: We have about 5" overnight on top of a lot of compressed sow & ice.
Just like a little Peugeot 304 estate I had once , that thing was epic in snow ! Was living near Leeds at the time and one year the snow was really severe. On my way back from Leeds , going past a place called Garforth there is a serious bank called Garforth Cliff. Anyway snow was prolly 12" deep and still falling , it was just nose to tail at a standstill up the bank , the 304 just went past all of them up the middle like nothing was there !! Loved that little car , but my sister went and blew it up by driving it until it seized when a rad hose burst !! Silly cow !!CitroJim wrote: Richard, I know how good the Ami8 is in snow. One year ('80 I think) in heavy snow the only vehicles able to make any headway were a 2CV and my old Renault 4Everything else was stuck. Thin tyres, light weight, little power and high ground clearance apparently was the secret...
