I'm going nuts! Help, please (Xantia 90Hdi)

Unread post by rmunns »

This afternoon decided to do oil/filter change on my car. First time on this car.
Completed job ok, but I've got a bolt left over from the undertray. I took off three nuts which were on studs at the front and FIVE bolts further back, two one side and three the other. All put down very methodically until job finished.
But when I put the undertray back I can only find places for the three nuts and FOUR bolts. I even took tray off and only 7 holes altogether.
Honestly. All I can think is that I unscrewed an identical bolt from somewhere nothing to do with the tray.
Can anyone help or should I book myself in.............. ?

The extra bolt is either from one of the wheel arch liners or one that had previously dropped onto the tray then fell out when you removed the tray.

Welcome to the ranks of the "mystery left over bolt finders" I think everyone who has ever picked up a spanner falls into that group :P

If all the holes in the undertray have a bolt in it don't worry ! Mine is held on with cable ties due to some of the bolts shearing off with corrosion !
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(

Thanks for re-assurances. 'Leftover' bolt definitely was taken out from somewhere, nothing dropped out of tray. So today, if it warms up (-9deg here last night) I'll pursue the wheelarchliner suggestion.
