Timing Belt Tensioner Change?

Post by AbangCorp »

Hi there

I have been recommended to change

1 - timing belt
2 - water pump without question
3 - thermostat 75 degree (malaysia hot climate)

what I am not really sure is

4 - pivot tensioner
5 - idle roller

i do want to inspect before the belt change
but most of you who did it on your own, what do you think?

which pivot tensioner and idle roller do you mean, for the timming belt or the auxiluary belt, in either case it is best to thoughraly check all tenssioners and idlers for play and noise in the bearings, if any doubt fit new ,

ps.
do you know of Sujit Sing he lives in Malaysia and has quite a lot of knowledge, and he is a citroen car club member

If its an XUD TD engine (up to 1998) with metal tensioners, ive never had one of these fail on me, and are much more durable then later plastic ones fitted to HDi engines....

Feel how the rollers spin, if theres no play then that should be fine..

Paul,

I'm in full agreement with that :D The old XUD tensioners seem to go on for ever.

The only ones I swap by default are the manual eccentric tensioners used in petrol XUs and TUs. These are similar, I believe, to the HDi ones.

Yes I know, It is actually Surjit Singh

He is indeed good, I have come refer to him several time
what I can say about him, very knowledgeable

Yup, I mean timing belt

But My Aux belt, I dont know when but at one time the long alternator bolt is no where to be found. Causing the top tensioner a hard time. Now my top tensioner have a line mark cause by the belt

I have inspected by bottom tensioner
It cost a bomb here, where I sense some roughness, but cant really tell

But I do think it create quite a noise when rolling

Bottom line, I am not quite sure what roughness refer to...
But Play, I think I know

Sometimes it may have a play, but not visibly detectable

if the tensioner bearings do not feel/sound very smooth =(roughness) when you spinn them fit new one's,

Surjit is trying to have my CX 2.5TRI saffari shipped to Malaysia
