Track day next year.....?

Whilst reading this month's Retro Cars magazine earlier on, there is an advert for a motor organisation who do deals for car clubs to book track days.....they can be booked for half days or full days at reasonable prices...I think it was £69 each for a half a day, or £20 for 2 hours....

Sound interesting?

I wouldn't mind not to drive fast and blow the engine or anything,....just to let its hair down a bit and try out the hydractive suspension's handling.

You just cant do that on public roads anymore.

Also we could get some great photos if we can rustle up a good photographer with a tripod.....My brohter springs to mind if he was up for it

Id love to hear a V6 Xantia on full chat or an Activa giving it the beans round a bend 8)

Also if Richard was up for coming long he could give us a few driving pointers? apparently he knows a thing or two about driving faster than normal

I think those prices are around the right figure after speaking to my neighbour who is a member of the R5GTT club who hire tracks for the day.

Also if Richard was up for coming long he could give us a few driving pointers? apparently he knows a thing or two about driving faster than normal

Anyone up for Snetterton? Yes, interested with good notice. I wanted to go this year but ran out of time. I would need to ensure my front hydractive valve is working properly, and the steering wheel angle sensor as i can hear a plastic clicking noise when turning the wheel, but apart from that its good to go...

As far as the venue's go...i think it is a choice of many of the country's tracks.....They recommend checking their website www.clubmsv.co.uk for more info.

I'd love a spirited ride in an activa.....my hydractive handles bends and camber changes amazingly well.....the activa must be from another planet.

Thats a great idea, i dont really think i have a track type car, might be fun trying though Im sure an Xm would be almost as good as a hydractive Xantia. It would be fantastic to come along and just see some activas go around a track.

Any central-ish tracks?

It never hurts to find out just how hard you can push a particular car, and what its characteristics are when it lets go.

That knowledge can possibly save you on another day.

Besides, it's also a good time to experiment with tyre pressures.

Paul dont worry about an XM not being a sprightly car per say....

My TD isnt exactly a tarmac ripper itself....As Addo says it is good to see how your car responds when thrown into a different situation.....Id like to know at what point mine starts to let go without ploughing me into an oncoming car etc.

Me too , but it would be in the Evo , good though my Xantia is the track is not it's thing !!

The most fun i had round a track was in a 1.4 Metro Si, blessed with just 75bhp it was a real hoot to get it up on 3 wheels. My Maestro was also there, but it was a real handful to get it round corners with so much torque and a front heavy chassis. The Activa will be great fun, as its nicely balanced yet has enough power to keep you entertained.

It might be fun to bring my C5 actually, it would be interesting to see how it performs on a track, might have it remapped by then too!

Hmm, what about track day insurance ...

A C6 on a track would certainly be something to see, i just hope you have got yourself prepared for the cost of its tyres I thought mine were costly enough, at £135 each for Michelins, though if i remember rightly C5s are about £225 each! That would get a full set of michies for my old SX C5.

Ill be keeping an eye on this thread to see when and where

If you dont need to prove that you have it to the track people then i'll probably take a chance on that one

Was gonna mention tyre wear !! Also , bit of advice , new tyres are not a good idea at a track day , they heat uo and wear like hell due to the tread depth , best to use part worns Pressures need to higher for track use too.
Also , make sure oil and coolant levels are correct and brake pads have plenty of material left on them.
It's also a good idea to lap in sessions of say 10 laps with diesel or petrol turbo powered cars with a cool down of half an hour between sessions because the intercooler and oil cooling on a standard road car tend to saturate quite quickly which causes thermal stress on the pistons , head gasket and oil.
