Moving a Xantia S1 immobiliser keypad

Post by wainy »

Hi,

Has anyone successfully moved the location of the immobiliser keypad on a S1 Xantia? I'm wanting to move it to the space on the dashboard on the right hand side of the steering column, below the switches for locking the rear elec windows and alarm, if that makes sense :?: .

Is it possible and what's the best way to approach it? Want to make space for a S2 tray to increase storage in the car, which is really lacking.

Thanks!
WAINY

Simple
Get the S2 tray and remove the S1 tray complete with keypad :) :)
Double bonus as you have no keypad to go wrong :D :D

ABSOLUTLY!

So, ignition on, code in, start engine, remove keypad WITH ENGINE RUNNING, replace with earlyer "Mobile/ MP3 player" holder, carry on as normal, and dont worry AT ALL about entering a code again EVEN AFTE BATTERY REMOVAL!!!

If however, you really want to move it, the Keypad is a harness just taped and stuck to the rest HOWEVER, it would be a dash out job to move it and unravel the wiring to move its location.. MUCH better to remove it completely!... Make a note of the code, if you ever plug the keypad in again it will want the code..

Thats a good point actually, Im unsure of my V6 code,

There's not really enough space there beside the steering wheel to fit the keypad either.

Thanks for all the replies to this post. Sort of wanted to keep the security of the keypad in spite of the impracticality of it and its capacity to annoy! However, I'll be removing it at the weekend. Come to think of it, I remember being told that you could bypass the keypad but didn't realise it was so easy :D !

No I know Wainy! I was VERY surprised how simple it was! But very pleased, as they are a real damm neuciense...

In reality though, how many Xantia TD's do get knicked anyway?? They tend to go for the Vaux's and Frauds rather then these...

And how many people know you can get a V6 in a Xantia! NO one round me here! Which is great fun.!!!

Just to get it clear in my own mind .

The keypad retains the code (so write the last code used on the bottom of it)

yes ?/?

And never install a keypad without knowing the code .
Because if you do the Main ECU will know that a keypad has been installed; will not allow the system to start, because it did not receive the correct code from the keypad.

Then as it had not started the engine. The ECU will now not allow the engine to start with or without a keypad.

So you have to install a working keypad with a known code to be able to again start up to enable you to remove the pad to be back where you started.
yes ?/?
thanks

Yes, but the code is stored in the ECU or diesel pump, not the keypad (which is just a dumb keypad)

No, as Xantia V6 says code is in the ECU! If you tap in yur code, remove keypad while engine is running it WILL ABSOLUTLY NOT ask for a code again!!

You can put any kep pad in, as said its a dub terminal.. My V6 is keypad less and has never asked again or failed to start even after removing the battery..

On DERVs, I THINK, after the correct code entered, the ECU puts a live signal to the stop solinoid.. however, im not 100% on this, as Ive not looked into it..

Thanks Both
My concern is with the Petrol ECU's but I imagine the principle applies throughout the range.
The code is retained by the Engine Management ECU.
But it also records that the keyboard has been is removed.
and knows not to look for the code.
Now
What happens if a keyboard is re-attached and the last code used which is still stored by the ECU has been forgotten.
I am worried that the ECU will prevent the engine from starting and will not now have remembered that a keyboard was de-coupled when it last shut down. {or whilst it was last operating.}
I hope it is not me just being thick?
cheers

You're up the creek without a paddle, another (unlocked) keypad required or a new one if you can afford it.

Yes, unfortunately

If the keypad was connected and you don't know the code then it's Goodnight Vienna.

There are some firms about who can unlock ECUs but they know how to charge for the privilidge

So does a new keypad come with a handshake system that is able to interface with the ECU regardless of the code stored with-in ?
or how do you unlock the keypad ?
CLUTCHING at Straws I suspect

several ECU's and the odd Keypad
