106 Central locking & alarm. Strange behaviour.

This is frying my brain!

Key in drivers door locks all doors.
Key in drivers door only unlocks drivers door.
Infra red remote unlocks all doors but doesn't lock any doors.
Remote arms and disarms alarm.

I'm guessing a bad connection or earth but any ideas would be very welcome.

That's a bizarre set of symptoms Andy

And, as you say, a real brain-fryer.

So bizarre that an earth could be it but before that I check for broken wires in the door concertinas. I'd not be surprised if the 106 suffers from this as bad as the 306 does.

I think you're right there Jim. Sometimes the remote will only work if the drivers door is half open. Sometimes the key arms the alarm without using the remote. It's all very muddled..

The car was a in a right mess when I acquired it. The previous owner was about as good at spannering as I am at dancing i.e. crap! He'd started to put a new clutch in but soon got out of his depth and abandoned the car with half the bits in the boot. I've got everything sorted now and it's actually a very good good low mileage car. My wife's given it an excellent clean and transformed it's a appearance.

I bumped into the previous owner the other day and the look on his face was priceless when I told him I was taking it for it's MoT and I'd only had to buy wipers, oil and a filter. He was convinced I'd have to scrap it
