silly question

Post by lexi »

How much LHM do you think the tails hold in dead ends of brake circuits.

I bled about half a jam jar out of each brake bleed nipple.

Including the pipes do we think more or less is needed?

When I changed the LHM last month, I bled nearly 1/2 jam jar out of each front line. I expected to bleed more than this out of the rear brakes, from what I'd read elsewhere on the Forum, and was surprised that the new LHM came through so soon, collecting about 1/3 jar on each side - no mistaking the bright new colour!

I suppose the amount of old LHM to be bled off is dictated in part by how new the pads are, and thus how far back the pistons are in the calipers :)

When I bled my rear brake lines (probably the first time in the car's first 12 years), I got about 2/3 of a 330ml water bottle (say250ml) of dirty yellowish fluid, then some bubbles before the good green stuff started to flow. The front brake lines are a lot shorter so I would guess about 100ml to be safe.
