Saxo Auto steering rack replacement

Post by Village »

No, not an automatic steering rack! replacing the steering rack in a Saxo auto.

one of my colleagues has a saxo that his wife drives, and it is currently making some unpleasant graunching noises, so they took it to their local mainstealer and were quoted £1,200 for a replacement!

Needless to say, he said "thanks, but no thanks" and walked out again!

Is this a realistic price for this job and if not, how much should it be?

Cheers
Pete

partly depends were the car is and if its power steering or manual,

i have not done a SAXO one yet but i would think it is quite easy,

GSF's 06 catalouge list manual at 25 quid part No. N43928

and power 125 quid part No. N43030,

even if Cthe dealer was asking 200quid for the rack thats 1000 for there service's,

Thanks for the info, I should really have mentioned that it has power steering...

I have no idea what the hourly rate at a main dealer is, but if it'f £100/hour, will it really take 10 hours to change the rack?!

i thought main dealers rate is around 80 quid an hour,

also cant see why it would take 10 hours to swop over,

were abouts is the car

Car is near Bournemouth I think, not sure exactly where Nick lives but it's somewhere on the Hampshire - Dorset border.
