Came across a thread about windows steaming up on Xantias with AC and it pointed to a clogged cabin filter is this the Pollen Filter? Allan

Indeed it is. Cabin ventilation is dependant on the pollen filter being unobstructed. Find it in the passenger footwell under the trim below the glove box. It's under a rectangular plastic cover that slides off , then the filter pulls out.

Thanks for getting back so quickly, 2 seconds and it was out, thats one more reason for ignoring the Haynes Manual it said I had to remove 3 screws to get to the filter. Thanks again I just to decide whether to replace or wash it.

Replace it. Get one from your local motor factor , will be cheaper than a main stealer. The one I got was Fram.

the other reason for windows steaming is water getting into the car,
either leaking in or heater matrix,

as Paul says hope the above fix's it

If theres a very tiny leak in the heater matrix it seems to coat the inside of the windscreen with a grimy but invisible film that fogs a lot more easily than clean glass.

When I got my Xantia the (apparenty clean) windscreen fogged far too easily and normal wiping with a cloth didn't help for long. A few months later (yes I'm a dumbass for not trying it sooner) I gave the windscreen a thorough clean with meths and a soft rag and presto, it stopped fogging up all the time.

I'm sure there was a tiny leak from the heater matrix but just by giving the glass a clean with meths every few months it stopped fogging up for the 4 years I had the car...

So first port of call is to try cleaning it with something that will remove that film - standard window cleaner spray may work as well, but I had such good results with meths that I never tried anything else...

Regards,
Simon

You should also check that the drains in the scuttle panel (outside, in front of the windscreen) are not blocked with leaves. When the drains get blocked, rain water ends up in the ventilation system and the footwells and can make your car steam up.

If it's an estate, check (under) the carpets in the load space and rear footwell. The tailgate is prone to a variety of leaks - all straight forward and inexpensive to fix. Have a look at 'Things you won't find in the BoL' on my webpage.

It's also a good idea to get into the habit of always parking an estate nose-up if on a slope.

So if your drive slopes up off a classified road, you'd better move house!
