For some reason the dial that diverts the fan air-flow between the windcreen/face/feet etc makes no changes when its rotated. the air comes straight out the vents on the dash only. So its virtualy impossible to demist the windscreen - which is really dangerous this time of year... there is resistance when you turn the dial, and viewed from below it does appear that the white cable is moving, also you can hear something trying to happen in the dash, but where ever you leave the dial nothing changes.
any ideas??

Not sure about the Xsara, but if the Xantia is anything to go by, the moving cable is the white outer sheath of the cable that’s escaped from its clamp at the control end.
You will need dismantling a bit to reattach it.
