Xantia R/C player illumination

Unread post by Xantidote »

Recently I had to replace the original 2030 R/C unit, and fitted a 3030 RDS unit out of a scrapped R reg Desire (?). Just took my old unit out, and plugged the 3 connecting plugs into back of new unit and slid it into place.

Unit operates fine, but I've now discovered in the darker nights that there's no illumination of the unit at all until it's switched on (fuse set to operate without ignition on). Once switched on, everything lights up. Unable to recall what happened on the old unit, but surely there's some illumination of the on/off switch when unit is switched off, so I can find it without too much groping in the dark? Is it as simple as a bulb/LED failed in the control panel?

One odd unsolved anomally:
I removed the new unit from donor car with it's original wiring plugs still attached. The power input plug to it had identical connections as my original unit, numbered 4,6,7 & 8, and as shown in Haynes for both Series 1 & 2. But, it also had a yellow wire marked 840A to connector 5, and I've found no reference to this connection anywhere. Any ideas, and is this the source of no on/off button illumination?

Thanks guys - Martin
