fuel sender/pump

hi all i have been quoted 45 pound for secondhand fuel sender to fit 93 xantia td new to citroens is this the right money regards les

you can have the one from the tank of my LX for £10 plus postage if you want.


out of interest, why do you need a new one?

or do you mean the fuel pump on the engine?

fuel gauge not working erthed out gauge and it went up no probs so now thinking it is sender and pump combined at the tank end if yours will fit you have a deal sir i have a 93 xantia td

The only pump on the TD's is the fuel pump at the engine, unlike the HDi's which need a low pressure pump in the tank.

Have you lifted up the back seat behind the driver's and checked that the connector is seated properly?

I'd rather we make sure you do need a new sender and it's not something simple

fuel sender combined fuel pump

xac im pretty sure the fuel sender has a combined pump too like i say im new to citroens so stand to be corrected maybe someone out there could give a third opinion regards les

If you've got a TD then in the tank it's just a white "funnel" which has a mesh filter on the end, this is what the fuel is sucked up through.
Through the top flange of the sender is a metal pipe which the fuel return connects to.
Also attached to it is the fuel guage with float, it's basically a fan of contacts that are activated as the float moves up and down with fuel level.

Nope, it's all driven by the superb bosch :)
Pop off the rubber cover under the back seat and check the connector to make sure it's clean and secure.

PM me your address and I'll post the one from the LX after the weekend.
I'd suggest just connecting it to the guage feed under the seat and manually operating the float to see if your guage needle moves (with the ignition on of course).
If it doesn't, then the issue lies either with the instrument panel or the wires to it, so just send the sender back and it will only cost you the postage, no point wasting money :)

Remember, if you're going to remove the pipes, fit long cable ties around them to stop them sliding down the side of the tank out of reach, and have a couple of small jubilee clips to resecure them.

ok many thanks for that i think the gauge may be ok i earthed it out at the sender plug and it shot up like a good un so hope it is the sender

Speaking of which, I bought the special Laser tool for undoing and refastening the pipe clips and it works a perfect treat :D

Expensive at £16 for occasional use but well worth the money if you're always dealing with these clips. I'll be making good use of it I reckon!
