New Car...

Unread post by deian »

Hi all,

After much oohing and aahing about ZX's and future projects, I've decided to land myself an M reg Xantia 1.9td VSX in black.

Overall I was expecting it to be underpowered, compared to the 2.1 it's not too bad at all, not quite as quick overall but it's still very capable. It has leathers, but not electric, it doesn't have the keypad either which i'm pleased about, and no aircon. It needs an accumulator sphere, drop links, an engine mounting and the tracking done, otherwise it's a lovely car. It has really good paintwork and zero rust, which i was surprised about on a car this age. I wasn't even expecting it to be as solid as the old one, but it is.

Oh and there's an eggy smell coming from the screen washer bottle (it is that, thought it was the matrix but it's not that, cooling/heating works nicely), if I put sterilizing fluid down the washer bottle and squirt some up the jets will that damage anything?

I guess I will post some pictures soon. It could do with a factory spoiler to finish it off. Oh and a standard stereo. So i'll be looking for those two soon.

Nice car, an M plated VSX and black can be a smart Xantia colour too!

Why does it need a spoiler though - the V6's don't? Only the 1.8 LX's
and 90hp HDi's need spoilers to make them go faster...

I think they look a bit bland without the spoiler.

My first Xantia had a spoiler with a brake light built in and a centre post.
Was very handy for tying the boot down if I had to carry and large items, and looked good.

Excellent news Dei :D We need some pictures. I like the early VSX a lot and having leather is a bonus!

Putting some sterilising fluid in the washer bottle should be OK. How about a bit of Milton? If it's OK for babies it'll be fine in your new baby

I always used a good dollop of Milton to sanitise the Aquaroll and caravan plumbing at the start of each season with no issues...

I believe the spoilers were not fitted to VSXs as it was considered it made such an up-market car look a bit too rakish and raffish. I'm firmly in the camp that likes them and would love one on my V6...

"Rakish & raffish"
That certainly sounds more like it than "Chavvy"

I too prefer a Xantia with a spoiler though I doubt it confers any practical advantages other than an anchor point for bungee cords. :)

Wait 'til he shows the interior pics, with ill-fitting faux Burberry seat covers and a pair of little boxing gloves hanging from the rear view mirror. :P

I'm anti-spoiler, too. Just another bit to clean around, and whistle in a strong crosswind.

Eww... that put me right off, would never cover the nice black leathers I have, it's ALL black inside, dash, headlining seats carpets, even the rear lights are nicely tinted. If I tinted the windows I'd be branded a real shady character.

I'll put the spolier on hold for now pending further pictures of other black ones with spoilers. These problems need sorting now, I will start another thread as they may need further discussion beyond the topics of spoilers and fluffy dice!

Black s1 with a spoiler:

Image

The only benefit these have is they cover the crazed and bloomed
paint that's deteriorated on the fibreglass tailgate.

And here is nearly black without a spoiler...

No, I fully agree Dei, never cover leather seats..

Mine's all back inside with just the faux wood to relieve. The overall effect is very attractive without looking too heavy or sombre...

Thanks guys, now I think it looks good with the activa wheels, but without the wheels better without the spoiler, i think the car also looks better without the third tail light in the boot lid.

But each to their own i guess. Oh I need a cap for my tailgate wiper hinge.

This sounds like it has the makings of a very nice car indeed 8)

I used to have a black series one.....it was my intended first Xantia project minter, but bit the dust through the ridiculous amount of money it needed throwing at it

Although my series 1 VSX has a spoiler, when i was looking for a new Xantia i didnt want one on it.....i like the smoothness of the design without them  Now that i have one though i dont mind them either way.

My 1.9td has the spoiler the V6 doesn't... down to personal taste then, I prefer spoilerless.

Easier to clean as well

One off V6 there Paul - too racy for the image Citroen wanted to convey.
Must be post registration - probably off another scrapped Activa sometime
in the past...
