ABS sensor resistance

Post by Xaccers »

Both the sensors I've nabbed from a 406 are reading 1600Ohms.
I can't remember if that's good or bad.

Mine had always readings (Xantia MK2) between 1030 - 1100 Ω.
Different readings during a long term ABS problem, solved long time ago :)

PS: You have nice sign.piccy

That's what I thought, 1100ish, so wondering if one from a 406 would actually work.

Tee-hee couldn't help but nab your old one and paint it mauritius blue :)

That would not work in your Xantia then. I remember that one of the sensors gave readings over 1200 Ω and that caused the ABS error.

Yep, Xantia ones are 1039 ohms and as you say VertVega, it's critical.

I'm worried about your car pictures. Both appear to have failed rear arm bearings going by the negative camber on them!

Image I thought that's a disguishing characteristics of a Xantia

By the way, mine had that "famous" corrosion there, in addition to failed rear arm bearing :)

It helps tackle the roundabouts in Milton Keynes Jim, a very useful mod ;)

Interesting that the sensors are different between peugeot and citroen then. I would have thought that would add to production costs.
Will have to check tomorrow incase they had any more Xantias come in yesterday afternoon.

Xac, if my memory serves me right, Xantia front ABS sensor comes in 3 different types, specified according to the orga-number.
I don't remember ranges now :(

Hi All

It seems important to identify the original sensor type when checking the resistance. Looking through the PSA workshop manuals there seems to be some variation in design resistance valve even for the same generic ABS type. My experience comes from sourcing sensors for XM's where there are at least 3 possibly 4 different types of sensor used on the UK models over the production run. Of particular interest was the Bendix sensors on the early Mk1 XM's where the ring tooth shape was changed and the sensor resistance doubled. The ABS ECU was changed as well. Interestingly the sensors could be mixed even on an axle and the system still worked.
