Hi ,
Somebody said the other day , that it would benefit my Xantia diesel engine , if I added Redex .
Is this true and more importantly is it safe ?
Thanks
Terry .
Is Redex safe ?

I wouldn't recommend Redex, but I use this:
Forte Diesel Treatment
It works much better, put it in with only a small amount of fuel left and go for a bit of a blast. It works better than Redex and is totally safe to use. In fact your car will run on this alone.
If I'm changing the fuel filter i always fill the filter with this diesel treatment, the car fires up on it fine and it works a treat.

It shouldn't do any harm (petrol or diesel version), all it is is a bit of harsh chemicals to melt some the carbon build up from the injector nozzle heads and clean the pipes and engine internals really. Just follow what redex say on the packet, don't be tempted to put it all in on half a tank, it may be too potent.
If I remember correctly if you use straight veggie oil from a certain well known supermarket in your bosch equipped 1.9td xantia/zx then you can use petrol to thin it out and acts as a cleaner to clean up the old diesel soot build up. Only us about 5% petrol though.
Remember a little bit of petrol in a diesel engine is not too bad, but diesel in a petrol engine is a no no.
Hope that helps.

I would not mix petrol with veg or diesel unless it was -10C on a hot day.
Thin veg out with diesel, nothing else.
Jim and I have seen the results of people cutting it with other solvents and it isn't pretty.

Dunno about Redex but I've used a product called 10k boost before and it made a noticable improvement.
Of course the best way to clean an engine is water mist down the intake.
It turns to steam on the combustion stroke and blasts the carbon off all surfaces. Needs care and experience but it really works.

On every service i always clean out the air intake, but not with water.
Again the company who makes the above fuel system cleaner makes an air intake spray. Its excellent stuff, really works well. I wouldnt like to be experimenting putting water in there, but this stuff is really good.
Likewise i always use a bottole, or a few, of fuel system cleaner in the tank on every service.

I wasn't too clear in my description. Water mist is sprayed in small quantities into the intake after the filter with a hot engine running at around 1500 to 2000 rpm. Needs to done over a period of about 30 mins or so.
