Being new to the Xantia, (had a BX before), and with such a huge amount of posts here, even upon a search, I could do with any recommended posts, or strip down guides , before I resort to t a Haynes manual..(haven't got one yet).
I need to start on abs fault, which appears to suffer some 'disintegration'.
Something on that would be great.
........ is Haynes the best manual to work from for experienced mechanics?
Cheers.
Postscript: I mean, do you have any other basic manual that is preferred, that I don't yet know about.
Reccommended strip down guides, posts?

Nice one Paul.
I just realised with astonishment, that in 30 years of driving, I've never once been to a garage...no I lie, I one took a peugeot 604 into a peugeot garage to drill out a seized manifold stud without removing the engine, cos they could get at it easier with high lifts and special tool they had for the job and such equipment. That includes drives of seven thousand miles through Europe and Turkey! Includes four years of running a BX in Angelesy. I did driveshafts inner and outer bearings, head, turbo, suspension, etc..
I'm looking forward to getting back to Anglesey.
Have to sort out the abs and some electrics first, to get an MOT. New car drives well otherwise (10 700 on the clock, £250.00, due to high garage bill quotes).
The owner says the garage said the abs was something to do with driveshaft, and about to disintegrate. It makes a horrible sound on hard hard braking. Not sure what that is , need to learn a little more, but will go and strip it down, as soon a s I hear the hints that might serve me...ideally I'd like a replacement ready for the the offending part ready.
This xantia has a bosh pump. I have one on the BX, I should remove that . I'm going to have to pass it on..I've found someone who wants the engine.
Any way , been reading hard on this great place here...

Kev, you have penetrating vision!
I checked out the hints and tips which you mentioned. New to the Site Layout, it takes a while to learn what's where. Great Section.
Pleased to Rediscover the excellent Citroen Guide, which has moved on since I once downloaded it about four years ago or more.

I strongly suspect I have disintegrating near-side front toothed trigger wheel on the driveshaft, and shall strip it down shortly if you don't talk me out of it.
I'm not sure though, whether they are a replacement part on my car or not, even from reading the post. I shall read it again, but if you know, do tell me. (Year= 2000 - 1.9L TD). If not I'll check the scrappy for a driveshaft to get one off, or ask around.

Just as easy to swap a WHOLE drive shaft really....
The teeth cog for the ABS is heat shrunk onto the CD joint.. but it needs some heat to expand before it shrinks onto the joint..
