I can't believe such a thing exists. Only the emergency services have a right to ask they be cancelled.

There is no such thing.

If you have received a NIP then you have 28 days to respond. You have to respond to it (even if you don't know who was driving) otherwise you'll be charged with failing to identify the driver. Use those 28 days to research your options. The above 2 sites are a good start.

As for avoiding a speeding ticket, assuming it's given out legitimately, (i.e. the speed limit being enforced actually exists, and you are actually breaking that limit) then it's fairly easy.

And I believed the only way to avoid a ticket was to dodder about at 20mph
everywhere or leave the handbrake on (or both?).

That or adhere to the silly low speed limits that randomly fluctuate in every
given mile. At 11 points last year I'd love to know how to avoid any more
points too - please do tell!

Well, as I said, if the limit is enforceable you only have to look out for those big round lollipop signs at the side of the road, of which there will be a pair every time the speed limit changes. Then it's just a matter of driving with your eyes firmly on that big (usually round, unless of course you have a proper Citroen) instrument.

Don't bother watching where you are going, that's not at all important, as long as you are not exceeding the arbitrarily imposed speed limit and of course not committing such a heinous crime as driving in a bus lane during it's hours of operation then you will be perfectly safe.        And as everyone knows it's perfectly OK to run children over at 30mph.

I hope nobody missed the sarcasm this time.

You'll find me lurking over at the safespeed forums when I have time, though it's not the same since Paul died.

I advised a member of this forum on a speeding ticket issue before and by playing it by the book and opting for his day in court the allegation was dropped.

A lot depends on how and where you were pinged, it's worth fighting every ticket because you never know how many more are going to drop on your doormat in the next 14 days. But it isn't as easy as just sending a letter off, you'll need to do some research, especially try to find out if the limit is actually legal to start with.

You'll be threatened along the way but you just have to hold your ground and remember you can plead guilty right up to the day you are due in court.

I usually encourage defensible cases (and if you lurk on the net's many automotive websites they come up often enough) to proceed to court.

Prior processes are certainly intimidating - this irks me as I don't like enshrined bullying. Best of luck to the OP. :)
