cat fuse keeps blowing

Post by LotusEvora »

 this is really getting me down, I've been ripped off by several independent garages that claim to be Citroen Specialists... so far they have run a diag, cleared the codes, replace the battery, replaced the O2 sensors and are telling me each time the engine managment light comes on, that its something else... O2, lambda, anti polution sensor, the AFS, cranksensor, camshaft sensor.

The last garage told me to ignore it as my emissions were FINE!?!

...Please, Please, Please someone tell me why the 15amp catalytic convertor fuse keeps blowing?

Citroen Xara Picasso 2000 'X' the fuse is 'F34' located top right corner of the engine bay fusebox.

Hi,
welcome to the forum.
What car is it you have, we know its petrol so far, other details would probably be most helpful.

But I gotta say, a fuse for the CAT???
Am I missing something?

Sounds like the dealers are ripping you off.
CAT fuse? what the hell next?

O2 and Lambda sensor are one and the same.

Give us car details and a general location and perhaps someone can recommend a workshop that is honest and reliable.

Edited to add: Welcome onboard, hope we can cast some light on your problems.

There is nothing to stop you taking it away from them - your money, your choice.

No doubt one of the resident Gurus will be along shortly to explain what that fuse actually does.
Who told you it was a fuse for the CAT?

Interesting...
certainly could be something to do with emission control, I'm no expert, but have always believed the CAT to be purely a chemical reaction driven solid state device. Fully prepared to have to eat my words on this though...

Yep, passive device.
On FAP/EOLYS fitted vehicles there are up and downstream sensors to initiate regeneration and warn of blockages but they are low current/voltage devices and would not have dedicated fuses, only the one to the ECU.

Hi

Just out of interest could you post up exactly what it says in the handbook about this supposed 'cat fuse'? as has already been said by these good gentlemen the catalitic converted itself needs no power, and any lambda/oxygen sensors usualy ony run 1v and 3v max for modern ones, their feed wires would melt or the ecu would become damaged before a 15amp fuse blew.

Service Citroen is awesome, it shows me pictures of all the parts i used to be able to buy............
