Xantia Models

Unread post by Alhambra »

I keep seeing references to Series 1 & 2 models and can find no information about this, so, what are the differences and when was the Series 2 introduced?

I have a 99 1.8i Sensation that I assume is a Series 2 car.

S2; bulbous bumpers, passenger airbag instead of grab rail, clarion radio instead of blaupunkt which had mp3 player port, rear heater button on end of wiper stalk rather than dashbord, heater blower relay mod fitted at factory, grill is part of the bonnet.
Think it came in late 98, otherwise 99.

It's largely a difference in looks:

early series 1:

note double chevrons on bonnet

late series 1:

dashboard -

series 2:

The key s2 external difference on the rear is the insertion of a braking light
on the tailgate.

Can't find a s2 dashboard pic though!

:D

Note that the center rear brake light was fitted to late mk1s, and high spec mk1s had a passenger airbag and grab handle.

The electrical system had a major "upgrade" with a central computer system, mk2s also have LCD odometer, interior lights in the front footwells. The mk1 usually has an immobiliser keypad on the console, but the mk2 has an RF transponder on the key instead.

On Exclusives, the leather seats are a bit different (a matter of personal preference) but the mk2 steering wheel is not as nicely finished as on a mk1.

And it can be easily removed and replaced with a more useful tray.

Oh yes, worked perfectly although I had to change the actual fobs after a while as the rubber button covers became very soft and sticky and began to go into holes. Just shifted the keyblade and electronics to a new housing. Or at least the dealer did. Had I known it was so simple I would never have paid their exorbitant prices.
