306 gearbox fault?
Hello, been a while since I posted here. over the last few weeks i've been hearing a knocking sound whilst slowing down, this noise disappears if I press the clutch down. I can't see anything obvious. Last night whilst driving the gear stick kept jamming in neutral (this was inbetween gear changes, especially when going to 3rd). Any ideas as to the cause & is it lickely to be an easy fix?

That'll be for sure the clutch if the noise disappears when you disengage the clutch. It sounds like it's dragging and something is loose there.
I'd suspect either the release bearing or diaphragm spring is breaking up.
Only thing to do is pop the 'box off and check the clutch.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
The car has bog standard peugeot alloys on with the standard size tyres.
Jim,
If the clutch were playing up would this cause the gear stick to jam in position when in neutral?
I had the problem on monday, All of the linkages, gearbox oil level etc were checked on tuesday and to be honest the problem hasn't happened again.
Very strange.....

Well after driving the car for a few more weeks and having the problem occur a few more times I m fairly confident that te gearbox is at fault.
I think this because the noise is now present even with the clutch pedl pressed down or if you coast in neutral.
Best get looking for a replacement box or car then.....
