XANTIA brake pipes NLA from dealer?????

Post by citronut »

i went to fit a N/S front flexi brake pipe today on a P reg 1.9 TD estate,

the pipe nut which attatches the metal feed pipe to the flexi would not budge even with VICE grip,

so i decided to call my local dealer to enquire into purchasing a new metal pipe before i went any further,

he asked as usual for the last 8 digits of the chassis No. which i gave him,

then he tells me its comming up as no longer avalible likewise the other side,

i have just looked on service citroen and the part No. 4885.C9 my dealer gave me came up with a price,

i also looked at all the other XANTS with ABS and non HYDRACTIVE including MK2's

96170313 also came up with a price
4886.71 " " " " " " " " " "

so whats going on and will any of these others do the job

well the 4886.71 is the N/S pipe for a MK2 xant and it mesures 924mm X 4.75,

and the corect pipe 4885.C9 mesures 786mm X 4.75,

so if the MK2 pipe is still avalible i need to know if it has the same ends/flaires

Just put a loop in it to reduce the length.

the only prob i have found over the years is when bendding the larger diamiter OE steel hydraulic pipes they can split/fracture as its quite brital,

why is there a diferents in length, is the ABS unit on a MK1 mounted in a diferent place to a mk2

also i have also seen replacement copper knikle in 6mm on BX's from pump the flow valve split along the welded seems, so i dont belive the larger diammiter in copper can stand the pulsing presure,

the 3.5mm seems ok in copper though

Malc,

No Suspension Hydraulic blocks are in the same place but the Series one block is LONGER in the body then the Series two block, that would account for an extra, oooooo 10mm in the length I think..on S2 cars... :o

Im GLAD I rescued these two pipes from the last S2 car I broke, I though, hmmm I might just ..... and I did, and Im glad...

I had this on a S1 Xantias, but I got round it, the spring metal that holds the pipe when the union is done up will break if constantly "waggled" with thin nosed pliers, the lucky thing is I had some spare, AND They ARE the same as XM srping plates!! So I waggled it and broke it, I then could successfully get TWO pairs of mole grips FULLY on the union and twisted them apart, and hey presto, they came apart.... I them used an XM spring plate to assemble them all up... worked a treat...

thats a good idea Paul,

i think the manufacturers are making parts for leser old cars (if that makes sence), no longer available, to help the sales of new EURO BOX's and get some more perfectly good old/newer cars of the roads,

another form of SCRAP AGE (disposable world)??????????????????

Good Morning everyone, Reviving this old thread as it was the only one with the specific part no in that I require.
4886 71 front brake pipe 4.75 diameter and 924 long. its been NFP or a long time but does anyone know of someone who can make them up? Surely there must be a hydraulic place in the Uk that can make them?
the daft thing is that its not the pipe thats gone its the flexi pipe which has perished and failed the MOT.. but I can't get the 2 separated. the nut is now rounded and won't budge after 2 hours of trying.

I expect that Pleiades would be able to supply a made-up pipe.
Worth giving them a call.

Of course! Thanks Steve.
I've been putting out feelers all over the place but had forgotten about them.
Cheers

SGS at Dunsfold (Cranleigh, Surrey) can also make up new pipework. Ask for Tom.
