New 406 Questions

OK as people may have guessed I have been hunting for a new car.

After looking at a couple of different options ranging from repaired insurance write off to honda dogs, I have gone for a 51 plate 406 2.0HDi 90 Rapier Estate.

It has some bodywork problems, mostly scratches and a few dents, not really too fussed by them as mechincally it seems sound and drive wonderfully.

However I have a couple of questions regarding it:

1) The fuel cap seems to be missing the spring to pop it open on the lever, is this an easy fix and how so?

2) How easy is it to replace the front bumper section?

3) I think it needs a new left hand control stalk, left hand indicator has a mind of its own (didn't spot on test drive) reading around a bit it looks like I may be able to get a local pug main dealer to do it either free or reduced rate as it seems to be a warranty issue that they will honour, if not how easy is it and can anyone find the right part on GSF as I can't?

I'm sure I'll have other questions over the next few weeks as I find little bits that need attention.

R.E the spring on the fuel flap i got a spring from a stapler removed the lower bottom bolt and put through the spring and bolted back on.
This enables the flap to open when the remote release is used.

What year 406 is it? If its a multiplxed car then the indicator stalk is part of the comms2000 unit which comes as a whole. This is around £200 from the dealers and as far as i know is not available anywhere else.

Ive just ordered the same bit for my C5, going to collect it today, so ive been doing a bit of digging around to find info about it.

If its got some warranty then they might fix it, though it might be classed as wear and tear depending on what its doing.

What do you mean it has a mind of its own?

Its a 51 plate, and having spoken to the local dealer the part alone is about £200 as you said, so pretty sure this one is the same unit you've just picked up for your C5.

Mind of its own; it won't always stay on right hand indicate, or it will drop off right hand. The auto cancel for right sends it to left indicate, very occasionally it'll drop to left of its own accord.

I don't think its covered under warranty any more, I did ask the dealer as peugeot did extend the warranty on that one part, but not as far as 9 years unfortunately.

I must admit I've more or less gotten used to it now, as long as I keep an eye/ear on it, it isn't a problem. Its one of those jobs that will be done when I get a job (currently unemployed and searching for one) if the car doesn't get replaced by a brand new vehicle, (depending on salary.)

I'll see if I can find a stapler to cannabalise and give that a go, hadn't thought of that idea, cheers.

I think I've heard of people using the spring from wooden clothes pegs which might be easier than finding a suitable donor stapler!
