Can a rx4 be mot'd without the 4wd shaft fitted ---ive just bought 1 without a 4wd shaft fitted but im otherwise happy with it and it has a fresh mot
My mechanic says i may run into problems trying to get it mot'd again without the 4wd shaft in place----i dont have it or even want it! but obviously im concerned----i believe many rx4's had this shaft removed for various reasons
Has anyone successfully mot'd their rx4 with the shaft removed?
Any advice much appreciated ---many thanks

Why is that? Can't a normal Rx4 be motted successfully with the shaft in place?redfive05 wrote:At least it would go on the brake rollers for testing which would mean a more thorough MoT test than an RX4 with a propshaft.
You have to ask why it was removed.
if it was because there was noises coming from the shaft....that may have been the centre bearing or the rubber coupling. The bearing isn't a hard job for replacement and the coupling can be done by any home hack in under 2 hours.
If the noise was gearbox related then maybe it had a LHS drive shaft boot failure which empties the gearbox requiring usually a replacement box. I'd have given that Rx4 a wide berth if I were you as in my personal opinion there are so many reasons for that shaft being removed and they all point I think to poor maintainence on the PO's part. Just my 2p worth.

RX4s can be tested on MOT brake rollers, ours was, i saw it get done and it only just passed due to their horrific brakes.
I would have thought economy might have something to do with it being removed, unless there was a problem with coupling etc. Though if radiovic is happy with it being front drive then any probelsm shouldnt be noticed unless a shaft is refitted.
Good cars RX4s though, very funky too.
